About Us
Hilando Oportunidades
Hilando Oportunidades, an initiative powered by USAID in collaboration with NC State Wilson College of Textiles, is set to revolutionize the textile manufacturing landscape in Honduras.
This program offers comprehensive training and certification to young adults seeking skilled positions in Honduras’ burgeoning textile industry. The curriculum covers key areas such as spinning, knitting, and dyeing and finishing, delivered in a self-paced yet structured fashion to launch fulfilling and high paying careers with opportunities for upward mobility.
Students will advance through the program in stages, receiving a badge after each one:
Explora Hilando
In this stage, students will use a mobile application called “Herald” to learn basic vocabulary and benefits of the machinery. The application was created by Shimmy, a technology business for education that utilizes their digital capabilities based on games to inspire more people to find employment in textile fabrication.
Aprende Hilando
Here instruction will pivot to learning about technological aspects about the textile industry such as fiber fundamentals, introduction to textiles and fundamentals of spinning. In this stage and in alliance with the textile industry in San Pedro Sula, the students will be enrolled in a hybrid program, with theory being applied in person at the labs at UNITEC.
Aplica Hilando
The last stage of the project is made up of 100% hands-on work where students will interact directly with the machines from each step of the production process.
Through this powerful applied knowledge, Hilando Oportunidades will unlock economic opportunities that generate lasting community-wide impact. Textile manufacturers will also benefit from this program, which will provide them with access to a skilled and qualified workforce that will foster continued industry growth.
